Production Step Logging is the most physical component of the Production management process. It involves placing terminals, tablets or PC's in the manufacturing facility to allow operators to interact with the production order steps.
Logging Production Steps
An active production order should have one or more steps to complete in order to ensure effective Production management. Each step may be allocated to a specific person or station. On the factory floor the operators will be able to select pending steps from the production terminal to complete. Steps can be grouped by person, order or other options. Once an operator selects a steps, he/she has to log the starting of this step. When they have completed the step, they have to once again log the completion. The system will now know how long it took to complete the step and by whom it was completed.
Logging Terminal
It is best practice to have a terminal at each station or in a convenient and secure location in the factory floor to ensure that all operators have access to the terminal. The terminal is secured with authorisation ID that is available on the "Logging" tab of the Production menu. Since the production logging terminal is a shared (relatively insecure) system, it has limited access. It is non the less important to ensure that only trained and responsible people interact with it.
Monitoring Logs
The production manager has to monitor the progress of production orders using steps. This can be done on the "Logging" tab of the Production menu or inside each production order. Production steps communicate capacity and activity in the factory. It also provides insight in to the productivity of individuals, stations and production processes.
