Nesting Production Orders

It is possible to create a production order with sub-production-orders as a nested set. This is used when a product is assembled from components produced in other production orders. It provides a way to group production orders into a logical component.

To nest a production order, you can set the Source field in the sub-production-order to the PRD# of the master, or alternatively link it from the master using the "Sub" tab.

It is important to understand that the relationship between a parent (this) and a child production order is based on the Source field of the child. You therefore cannot link a child production order to more than one parent. It is also a good idea to mention the relationship in the description of the child process to ensure that it is clearly visible. This will enhance manageability.

Linking a child production order that is already linked to a Sales Order or another Production Order will UNLINK it from the other process!
